General Idea: It's always nice to see new members on a board, but in general some loose their way, or do not know much about it. I will give a brief summary of the proper way to do things, you can read more in depth below if you would like to know more.

  • Be respectful at all times, do not yell, insult, ect.
  • Do not post double topics, or posts, keep spam to a minimum, these posts will be removed if necessary.
  • Do not use caps, stick to black color for posting.
  • Please give as much information when asking a question.
  • Be sure to thank members for their help, give credit if required, be sure to place [Resolved] at the end of answered topics.

Welcome to 110mb! This is a quick guide for new members, or members who have lost their way about Forum Etiquette. This will explain how to properly ask questions, respect other members, and so on.

Part I - Getting To Know The Community

The 110mb community is definitely a diverse one, filled with wonderful people who will help you in almost any case, just like family. When newly arriving here, these following things will help you:
  • Create a topic in the General Chat forum to introduce yourself.
  • Try to make your first topic interesting, explaining your interests, hobbies, ect.
  • Remember, first impressions are lasting ones, so try to be kind and courteous, and make yourself clear as a new community member.

Part II - Getting Support

110mb has many skilled people, who can do more than some large companies can. We are always willing to help!
  • When asking a question, try to make your point very clear, so we can help you as much as possible.
  • We know search is not real popular to use, but try to use it before asking a question, it will save us time, and you time.
  • Be sure to place [Resolved] at the end of your topic when it has been solved.
  • Do not yell, scream, or get an attitude toward members who are trying to help, web development can indeed be frustrating at times, but yelling will not solve anything.
  • Please refrain from typing in caps (LIKE THIS) in your posts, it's very rude, and will not get you any further.
  • Please keep from posting duplicate answers, you are allowed to bump after 24 hours, but do not keep double posting.
  • Please stick to typing in black, it's easier on the readers eyes, and will make a more serious point.
  • Refrain from using excessive smileys, these can often make your posts not easy to read, and are very unprofessional.
  • If you notice a server-side issue (like you notice a bug) please place [Admin needed] in front of your topic, please note that not all issues are server-side, 5% of the time it is, the other 95% is not.

Part III - Personal Messaging (PM)

Personal messaging is a great way to talk to people without creating a topic. You can also find out needed information you might not want others to know.
  • Try not to use Personal Messaging as a chat, ask for someone's MSN, AIM, or Yahoo ID if you would like to have a long conversation.
  • Please do not Personal Message the moderators, or administrators over things such as members flaming you. This will only anger the administrators and moderators. Use the report function.
  • Please do not insult people over the Personal Messaging system. This is very rude, and remember, anything you type and submit the moderators and admins can see.
  • If someone asks not to be Personal Messaged, do not keep bothering them.

Part IV - Spamming, Flame Wars, and Respect

Every once and a while, members will disagree, we like to try to keep this under control.
  • Spamming is constant creation of topics and posts, that are random, annoying, or serve of no real value to the other members.
  • Flame Wars are fights started back and forth about various things, usually resulting in a type of punishment.
  • We ask that you limit topic creation as much as possible, this keeps people from creating 500 topics about literally nothing.
  • If you plan to argue, do it elsewhere. 110mb is a tight-knit community, and we do not want to hear bickering back and forth, as it makes other members tense.
  • Please respect ALL members. Despite what disagreements you may have with another member, we would like to keep the community from being in constant warfare.
  • Insulting, yelling, and flaming will not be tolerated.

Part V - Language, Attitude, and Censorship

  • Please refrain from using excessive language on the community. It makes you look bad, it makes us look bad.
  • Please refrain from strong sexual content, such as vulgar references, or degrading comments toward both sex's.
  • Word filters are applied for those who wish not to see bad language if it is posted, these can be turned off in your profile settings.

Part VI - Signatures, Sigchats, And Avatars

Everyone loves adding some customization to their profiles, such as signatures (appears at the bottom of ones post), sigchats (signature chat boxes), and avatars (personal pictures under ones name). Keep these in mind when customizing your profile:
  • Please keep your avatars appropriate. Nobody wants to see racism, sexism, ect. on ones profile. Please be aware we also have some younger members on the forum, so keep it clean.
  • Sigchats are allowed, but we ask that the owners and posters keep unwanted content that is inappropriate out of the sigchats.
  • We also ask you keep pictures to a reasonable size in your signatures, large images take long to render, and some might find it an annoyance.
  • Please do not post inappropriate sites, images, or ideas in your signature. Keep in mind that young minds use this forum.

Part VII - Religion, Beliefs, And Customs
  • Everyone has a choice of religion, or no religion. Do not force your beliefs on someone else.
  • Keep in mind this is a diverse forum, meaning different cultures roam the forums, so please refrain from insulting a color, political style, ect.
  • Do not insult one's religion, and please do not post anything that might offend others beliefs.
  • Members have the right to post about upcoming spiritual events, country events, ect. If you do not wish to learn or know about these, do not post inappropriate replies, or insults.
  • Do not start religious flame wars, if found, they will be immediatly locked and/or deleted.

Part VIII - Illegal Content, Scripts, Nulls, Software, Ect.
  • Do not post illegal scripts, software, or any other type of content unless it is free/shareware.
  • Do not ask for illegal software or scripts here, we do not tollerate this.
  • Do not post links to sites that offer these things. Keep them removed from your signatures and personal text also.
  • Do not post someone's work unless they permit it. Failure to do so will result in that topic being removed and/or a ban.

Part IX - Other Things Necessary To Know

  • Only posts that are useful will be considered for the free upgrades via post count. Nearly all posts in the General Chat will not count unless they serve some value.
  • We do not allow people to scam, or copyright-rip work. This is wrong, and we do not support it.
  • Know what boards to post in, read the category description before posting to make sure it's right.

Part X - Last Words

We thank you for taking interest with 110mb and the community! Please try to keep these simple things in mind as you post. With all the best luck, good luck and many best wishes for you and your websites!

As I always say, keep it short, otherwise people won't read it. You should create another section at the start labeled 'in a nutshell' or something and use four or five points to summarise it all.

You should say, don't label as [Admin needed] and only edit your post to have it if someone suggests it. Otherwise people will create it when it's not necessary. People who tend to know it's intended use are regulars here and thus can just ignore that rule.

@manicgames, that would be very wise & elegant Etiquette...

Added:

If possible put that note somewhere where someone will always read before posting.

I have made this topic sticky.
Feel free to veto if appropriate.

(thanks manicgames; you now have three sticky topics in this section, lol. it would be awesome if you added a quick summary as suggested by myles, but it's great to have a set of guidelines to start with.)

(slowly but surely)Re-writing Age-Script...

WWW
« Reply #7 on: October 03, 2008, 04:11:53 AM »

I would liek to see this in the 110mb sign-up process (now you have to say the magic sentence, but with this included you could have to write a few sentences more) if they ened hosting that bad, they will write the sentences. if they don't hey won't be willing to write a few sentences and thus saves server capacity, too Duh
